Munnar is the heart of any Kerala holiday: rolling tea estates, cool mountain air, waterfalls beside the road and the rare Nilgiri tahr in Eravikulam National Park. Our Munnar tour packages start and end in Kochi (most of the longer trips end in Trivandrum) and include at least two nights in the hills, a private car with your own driver, and hotels of the category you choose. Pair Munnar with the wildlife of Thekkady, a houseboat on the Alleppey backwaters, the quiet meadows of Vagamon or a few days on the beach. Every package below can be changed to suit your dates, pace and budget.

What's Included in Our Munnar Packages

  • A private sedan, SUV or tempo traveller with an English- or Hindi-speaking driver for the whole trip, including fuel, tolls, parking and driver allowance
  • Pickup and drop at Kochi airport or railway station (Trivandrum for trips ending in the south)
  • All sightseeing and transfers in the itinerary, and houseboat meals where a houseboat night is included

Entry tickets, lunches and dinners on land, and personal expenses are extra.

How Many Days Do You Need in Munnar?

Two nights is the right amount for most travellers. It gives you a full day for Eravikulam National Park, the Tea Museum and the Mattupetty road, with the drive up from Kochi (about four hours) on the first day. Stay three nights if you'd like to see the other side of Munnar: the sandalwood forest of Marayoor and the dry hills of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, as in our Kerala 6 Days Itinerary. One night is too short, as the drive up takes most of a day.

Things to Do in Munnar

  • Eravikulam National Park: home of the Nilgiri tahr, a mountain goat found only in the Western Ghats, with Anamudi, South India's highest peak, behind it. Park buses take visitors up from the entrance. It closes for a few weeks between February and April for the calving season.
  • Tea Museum: see how fresh leaf is processed into tea, and taste the result. Closed on Mondays.
  • Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point and Kundala Lake: a scenic drive past lakes and tea estates, with boating on Kundala Lake.
  • Top Station: a viewpoint on the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border with wide views over the valleys on clear mornings.
  • Waterfalls: Cheeyappara and Valara on the road from Kochi, and Attukad and Lakkam closer to town.
  • Viewpoints: Pothamedu and Lockhart Gap for sweeping views over the tea estates.
  • Marayoor and Chinnar: Kerala's only natural sandalwood forest, ancient dolmens and a rain-shadow wildlife sanctuary, an easy day trip with a third night.
  • Spice gardens and Kathakali: guided walks through spice gardens, and evening cultural shows in town.

Combine Munnar With

  • Thekkady (3–4 hours): a boat ride in the Periyar Tiger Reserve and spice plantations. See our guide to Thekkady tourist places.
  • Alleppey (about 5 hours): a night on a private houseboat or a lakeside resort. See our Alleppey houseboat packages.
  • Vagamon (about 4 hours): a quieter hill station of meadows and pine forest.
  • Athirapilly (about 6 hours): Kerala's biggest waterfall, on the way up from Kochi.
  • Kovalam or Kanyakumari: finish on the beach or at the southern tip of India, flying home from Trivandrum.

Best Time to Visit Munnar

September to March is the best time, with clear views and cool weather; December and January nights can be cold, so pack a warm layer. April and May are pleasant when the plains are hot, and popular with families. In the monsoon (June to August) the estates are at their greenest and the waterfalls are full, though mist and rain are common. Read our guide to the best time to visit Kerala.

Munnar for Honeymoons and Families

Munnar's cool climate, tea-estate resorts and quiet viewpoints make it a favourite with honeymooners; see our Kerala honeymoon packages. For families, the boating lakes, waterfalls and Eravikulam's park buses keep children busy; see our Kerala family tour packages.

Munnar Tour Package FAQs

How far is Munnar from Kochi?

Munnar is about 130 km from Kochi, roughly four hours by road. The last part of the drive climbs through hairpin bends into the hills, with waterfalls and spice gardens to stop at on the way.

How many days are enough for a Munnar tour package?

Two nights in Munnar is enough for the main sights. Most travellers combine it with Thekkady and Alleppey in a 4- to 7-day Kerala trip. Add a third night for Marayoor and Chinnar.

Which is the best Munnar package for a first visit?

Our Kerala 5 Days Itinerary is the one we recommend for a first trip: two nights in Munnar, a night in Thekkady and a night at a backwater resort in Alleppey, with no drive longer than about four hours.

Can I book a Munnar-only package?

Yes. We can arrange two or three nights in Munnar with a car and driver from Kochi. Most guests prefer to add at least one stop, such as Alleppey or Thekkady, since they're on the way back.

Is Munnar cold?

Munnar is cool all year. Days are usually mild, but evenings and early mornings can be cold from November to February, so bring a sweater or light jacket.

Is Eravikulam National Park open all year?

No. It usually closes for a few weeks between February and April for the Nilgiri tahr calving season. On those dates, our packages visit Top Station or spend extra time at the tea estates instead.
