Short answer

Our Andaman land packages from Kolkata start at ₹18,125 per adult on double sharing (GST extra) for 4 nights and 5 days, and ₹20,000 for 5 nights and 6 days. Kolkata has plenty of direct flights to Port Blair: about 52 a week, taking roughly 2 hours 15 minutes, on SpiceJet, IndiGo, Akasa Air and others. Government passenger ships also sail from Kolkata, but they take 60 to 70 hours each way. Plan roughly ₹14,000 to ₹30,000 per person for the return flight, and 5 or 6 nights for a first visit.

  • Package price: ₹18,125 to ₹28,750 per adult for 4 to 7 nights, before 5% GST. Flights or ship tickets are not included.
  • Flights: direct, about 2 hours 15 minutes. The cheapest direct one-way fare seen is ₹6,996.
  • Ship: government vessels run from Kolkata. One guide gives the voyage as 60 to 70 hours one way, so allow for at least that.
  • Best length: 5 or 6 nights, which cover Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island.
  • Best season: October to May, with November to April the most popular.
  • Nicobar: the Nicobar Islands are not part of these packages. Access is restricted, so confirm with the authorities before planning anything there.

For planning, use ₹14,000 to ₹30,000 per person return. The low end matches the return estimates above. A WanderOn guide quotes round trips at ₹15,000 to ₹18,300. The high end allows for peak dates and late bookings.

Booking tips

  • Book 21 to 45 days ahead where you can. Last-minute fares can be 40 to 60% higher.
  • Fares rise around Diwali, Christmas and the April and May school holidays, so avoid those weeks if your dates are flexible.
  • Fares jump from April in the figures above, so travelling by March is cheaper.

Going by ship from Kolkata

Kolkata is one of the mainland ports for the government passenger ships to Port Blair. It is a slow option, so treat it as an adventure rather than a shortcut, especially when direct flights take about 2 hours 15 minutes.

What we could confirm

  • Voyage time: a WanderOn guide (undated, latest review May 2026) says 60 to 70 hours one way.
  • Vessels and schedule: the Andaman and Nicobar Administration's shipping department announced in March 2026 a tentative summer schedule (April to June 2026) in which Nalanda sails to Chennai and Kolkata in May 2026. The announcement gives no number of sailings or timetable, and all sailings depend on weather and operations. WanderOn says sailings are not daily and rotate across Kolkata, Chennai and Visakhapatnam.
  • Fares, one way: ₹2,630 (bunk), ₹6,750 (second class), ₹8,490 (first class) and ₹10,240 (deluxe). WanderOn's summary table labels this range "round trip" while its ship section gives it as one way, so confirm before budgeting.
  • Booking: tickets are sold through the administration's shipping service, not a standard travel portal, and bunk berths sell out first. The March 2026 announcement says tickets can be booked on the DSS e-portal or at STARS counters.

Our advice: confirm the current sailing dates, fares and booking window directly with the shipping authorities before you build a trip around the ship. Sources name the operator differently, and sailings are less predictable than flights. A voyage of 60 to 70 hours each way adds roughly 5 to 6 days to a short holiday. No leisure cruise liner is confirmed to call at Port Blair.

Between the islands, government ferries cost about ₹90 to ₹160 per crossing, and private ferries (Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean) run about ₹950 to ₹3,100. Our packages include government-operated ferries in the booked base class.

Which trip length to pick

For a first trip from Kolkata, pick 5 or 6 nights. A direct flight of about 2 hours 15 minutes means you lose very little time getting there, so the choice comes down to how many islands you want and how slowly you want to see them.

  • 4 nights / 5 days: the shortest plan. Two nights in Port Blair, then one each in Havelock and Neil. Good if leave is tight.
  • 5 nights / 6 days: three nights in Port Blair add a full day for Ross Island and North Bay. A good fit for a first trip.
  • 6 nights / 7 days: two nights in Havelock, which gives the beaches more time. A slower pace than the 5-night plan.
  • 7 nights / 8 days: adds Baratang. Choose it if you want a slower trip or already know you want the extra stop.

If you go by ship, add the voyage days on top of these nights. See places to visit in the Andaman Islands to decide what you want to see.

Best time to travel from Kolkata

The Andaman season runs from October to May, and November to April is the most popular stretch. Rain is the main reason. Port Blair averages 48.9 mm in January and 14.2 mm in February (1991 to 2020 averages), against 407.2 mm in May, 484.2 mm in June and 505.2 mm in September. The Island Tourism Festival is held in January.

For your flights, the lowest one-way fares from Kolkata run about ₹7,000 to ₹8,300 from October to March, then jump to about ₹12,500 from April. See our full guide to the best time to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

  • October to November: lowest fares of the season, but check the weather close to your dates, as October still sees rain (300.9 mm).
  • December to February: dry, and the busiest weeks are around Christmas and New Year. Gala dinner supplements apply on 24 and 31 December.
  • March to May: fares jump from April, and rain builds towards May.
  • June to September: the monsoon. Weather can disrupt flights, ferries, ships and boat trips, and heavy rain is common.

Planning the journey

Our package prices cover the land arrangements only, so you book the flights or ship tickets yourself, or ask us to quote flights separately. The order that avoids problems:

  1. Ask for a quotation on the enquiry page with your preferred dates and say you are travelling from Kolkata, and whether you plan to fly or sail.
  2. Confirm the hotel category and the plan, then check the flight options for those dates. If you plan to sail, confirm the sailing date with the shipping authorities first.
  3. Book flights that land in Port Blair with time to spare for the first day's plan, and keep a buffer on the way home.
  4. Send us your flight or ship details so the pickup and drop are arranged around them. Our package lists airport pickup and drop, so ask us in the quote what applies if you arrive at the port by ship.

If you pay by deposit, standard bookings can be secured with 10% when travel is 30 or more days away. Otherwise full payment is due.

A sample 5-night plan, flying direct from Kolkata

This follows our 5 nights / 6 days island escape: three nights in Port Blair, one in Havelock, one in Neil.

  • Day 1, Port Blair. Your direct flight lands, you are met at the airport and taken to the hotel. If you arrive early enough, the plan is Corbyn's Cove beach, Cellular Jail and the evening Light and Sound Show.
  • Day 2, North Bay and Ross Island. Boat excursions from Port Blair.
  • Day 3, Havelock. Government ferry across, then Kalapathar and Radhanagar beach.
  • Day 4, Neil. Ferry to Neil, with Bharatpur, the Natural Coral Bridge and Laxmanpur.
  • Day 5, back to Port Blair. Ferry back and a free evening.
  • Day 6, departure. Drop at the airport for your flight home.

Check your flight time: how much of Day 1 you get depends on when your flight lands. If it arrives late, the Cellular Jail visit and the evening show may not fit, so tell us your flight times when you enquire and we will say how the first day can be arranged. If you arrive by ship, the first day depends on the ship's arrival time, so we plan it once you confirm it.
