Bali can suit almost any budget, from simple guesthouses and street food to private pool villas and fine dining. For most Indian travellers, the biggest costs are flights and accommodation, with smaller amounts for the visa, the tourist levy, food and activities.
This guide breaks down a realistic Bali trip cost from India, explains the Indian taxes on overseas packages, gives sample budgets and shares tips to save money. All figures are indicative and change with season and exchange rates; for an exact price, send us your dates.
Is Bali expensive?
Not compared with most international destinations. Hotels, villas, spa treatments, local food and drivers are good value, and a private pool villa in Bali costs a fraction of a similar villa in the Maldives. Costs rise in peak periods (July, August, Diwali, Christmas and New Year), with imported alcohol, at beach clubs and in five-star resorts. With sensible planning, Bali is excellent value for couples and families.
1. Flights from India
Flights are usually the largest single cost. Non-stop flights from Delhi and Bengaluru save time, while one-stop flights via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok are often cheaper. As a rough guide, return economy fares booked well in advance outside peak dates often fall somewhere between ₹25,000 and ₹45,000 per person, and can be much higher at Diwali, Christmas and in summer. Compare total prices, including baggage, on low-cost carriers. See our guide to flights from India to Bali.
2. Hotels and villas
- 3-star hotels in Kuta or Ubud: roughly ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 per room per night.
- 4-star resorts in Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua or Ubud: roughly ₹5,000 to ₹10,000.
- 5-star resorts in Nusa Dua, Jimbaran or Ubud: from roughly ₹12,000 upwards.
- Private pool villas: from roughly ₹8,000 for a simple one-bedroom villa to much more for luxury villas with views.
Prices rise sharply in peak season. On our packages, hotels and daily breakfast are included in the package price.
3. Visa, levy and arrival formalities
- Visa on Arrival or e-VOA: IDR 500,000 per person, roughly ₹2,600 to ₹2,800, with a fee increase announced but not yet dated.
- Bali tourist levy: IDR 150,000 per person, roughly ₹800.
- All Indonesia arrival card: free.
See our Bali visa guide and arrival card and levy guide.
4. Food
Local warungs serve nasi goreng, mie goreng and gado-gado for very little, and Indian restaurants are moderately priced. A meal at a mid-range restaurant costs more, and beach clubs and fine dining much more. As a rough guide, allow ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 per person per day for food, more if you eat at resorts or drink alcohol, which is heavily taxed in Indonesia. Breakfast is included on all our packages. See our Indian food in Bali guide.
5. Sightseeing and activities
Our packages already include the main sightseeing: Tanjung Benoa water sports with a banana boat, the Kintamani volcano and Ubud villages, the Tanah Lot and Uluwatu temples, and on most trips a Nusa Penida day tour. Extra activities are paid locally: parasailing, jet ski or sea walker; the Kecak dance at Uluwatu; Bali Swing; rafting or ATV rides; a Mount Batur sunrise trek; spa treatments; and entry to Waterbom or the Bali Safari park. Budget for the two or three that matter most to you. See Bali water sports and activities.
6. Local transport, SIM and extras
- Drivers: our packages include private transfers and drivers for tours; for extra outings, a car with driver for the day is good value.
- Ride-hailing: Grab and Gojek work in most areas.
- SIM or eSIM: tourist data plans are inexpensive.
- Travel insurance: strongly recommended, especially for water sports and adventure activities.
- Shopping and tips: budget separately for souvenirs and small tips for drivers and guides.
7. GST and TCS on overseas packages
When you buy an overseas tour package from an Indian tour operator, GST at 5% applies to the package price, and TCS (tax collected at source) is collected. Since 1 April 2026, TCS on overseas tour packages is a flat 2%. TCS is not an extra cost in the long run: it is credited against your PAN and can be adjusted against your income tax or claimed as a refund when you file your return. Our quotes show these clearly.
Sample Bali trip budgets
Indicative per-person costs for a 5-night Bali trip, sharing a double room, including return flights:
| Trip style | What it looks like | Approximate cost per person |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | 3-star hotels, private transfers, main sightseeing, early-booked one-stop flights, local food | ₹50,000 to ₹70,000 |
| Mid-range | 4-star resorts in Ubud and Seminyak, Nusa Penida, some activities, direct or good one-stop flights | ₹70,000 to ₹1,00,000 |
| Premium | Private pool villas, five-star resorts, private touring, spa and dining | ₹1,00,000 and above |
For a Bali trip cost for a couple, double these figures. A 7 to 10-night holiday with the Gili Islands adds more hotel nights and boat transfers. These are estimates, not quotes; prices change with dates, fares and exchange rates.
How to save money on a Bali trip
- Travel in the shoulder months: April to June and September to October offer dry weather and lower prices.
- Book early for Diwali, Christmas, New Year and summer holidays.
- Compare one-stop flights via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok.
- Mix hotel categories: a pool villa for two nights and a good hotel for the rest.
- Eat local at warungs and Indian restaurants away from the beachfront.
- Choose a package that bundles transfers and the main sightseeing, so there are no surprise costs.
