“How much will Europe cost?” is the first question most families ask us. The honest answer is that it depends on how long you go, which countries you choose, when you travel and how you travel. This guide breaks the Europe trip cost from India into its parts, so you can build a realistic budget and compare a group tour with planning the trip yourself.

The five things that decide your Europe trip cost

  1. Length of the trip: each extra night adds a hotel, meals and sightseeing.
  2. Countries: Switzerland, the UK and the Nordic countries cost the most; Eastern Europe, Spain and Portugal are cheaper.
  3. Season: May–June, school holidays and the Christmas week are the most expensive; March, October and November are cheaper.
  4. Room sharing: a person in a single room pays a supplement; three in a room or children sharing with parents bring the cost down.
  5. Flights: return fares change a lot with the season and how early you book.

Typical costs per person

ItemTypical range (per person)
Return economy flights from IndiaAbout ₹50,000–₹80,000; more in peak season
Schengen visa fee€90 plus the VFS service charge
Travel insuranceAbout ₹1,500–₹5,000, depending on age and length
Escorted group tour, 7–9 nights (land)Often about ₹1.2–1.8 lakh
Escorted group tour, 10–15 nights (land)Often about ₹1.8–3 lakh
Personal spendingAbout €50–80 a day for shopping, snacks and extras

These are indicative figures for planning, not quotes. Group tour prices vary by departure date and what is included, so always compare like with like. Send us your dates for the exact price of any of our Europe tour packages.

Group tour or do-it-yourself?

On a do-it-yourself trip you pay separately for hotels in city centres, intercity trains, mountain railways, entrance tickets and every meal. In Switzerland alone, a return ticket to Jungfraujoch can cost over CHF 200 per adult. A group tour buys all of these at group rates and adds a tour manager and Indian meals, so for most families it is cheaper as well as easier.

Group tourDo-it-yourself

Europe tour cost for 2 persons

Couples share a room, so the cost for two is simply twice the per-person twin-sharing price, plus flights and visas for two. A honeymoon or anniversary trip of 7–9 nights on a group tour is usually the best value; adding private transfers or upgraded rooms increases the cost. Ask us for a quote for two with and without flights.

GST, TCS and paying for your tour

Overseas tour packages sold in India attract GST (currently 5% on the package value) and TCS (tax collected at source) under the Income Tax rules: at the time of writing, 5% up to ₹10 lakh per person per financial year and 20% above that. TCS is not an extra cost: it is credited against your PAN and adjusted against your income tax or refunded. The tour cost itself is paid in euros under your foreign exchange allowance.

Ten ways to reduce your Europe trip budget

  1. Travel in April, September or October instead of June.
  2. Book flights three to four months ahead.
  3. Choose a 7–9 night tour that covers the main sights.
  4. Share a room with three people where possible.
  5. Pick tours with optional excursions if you are not keen on every mountain.
  6. Use a forex card instead of buying currency at the airport.
  7. Carry snacks from India for coach days.
  8. Claim VAT refunds on large purchases.
  9. Book insurance with the tour for a group rate.
  10. Look at our shortest tour, Mini Highlights, one of the cheapest Europe tour packages from India with a tour manager.

What is usually not included in a group tour price

  • City and tourist taxes charged by some hotels per night (usually included on our tours; check your quote).
  • Optional excursions such as extra shows, boat rides or mountain trips on free days.
  • Porterage at hotels: you usually handle your own suitcase.
  • Drinks and snacks beyond the set meals, including bottled water at restaurants.
  • Personal expenses such as laundry, phone calls and shopping.
  • Tips for the tour manager and local guides, if you choose to give them (driver tips are included on our tours).

Ask for a written list of inclusions and exclusions before you compare prices between companies.

Worked example: a family of four, 9 nights in June

Here is how a family of two adults and two children (8 and 13) might budget a 9-night Paris to Switzerland and Italy group tour in June, using the indicative ranges above: four land tour packages (the child under 12 at the child rate, the 13-year-old as an adult), four return flights, four Schengen visas (one at the child fee), family travel insurance, and personal spending of about €60 per adult and €30 per child per day. Flights and the land tour make up about four-fifths of the total, so these are where early booking saves the most. Send us your family's details and we will prepare the exact figures.

Is it worth paying more for a longer tour?

The cost per night usually falls as the tour gets longer, because flights and visas are a fixed cost spread over more days. A 12-night tour often costs only a little more per night than a 7-night one, and saves you a second long-haul flight in a later year. If you can take the leave, a longer first trip is often better value.

Do your Europe tour packages include flights?

Our prices are land-only by default, so you can choose your airline and departure city. We can add flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or your city and match them to the group's arrival time; ask for a Europe tour package with flight and we will show both prices.
