Indian passport holders need a visa to visit Georgia, but getting one is simple. Most travellers apply for the Georgia e-visa online, and many do not need a Georgian visa at all because they already hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa. Since 1 January 2026 there is one new rule every visitor must follow: travel health insurance is mandatory to enter Georgia.
This guide explains which route applies to you, the current fees, the documents to keep ready and the mistakes that cause delays. Visa rules change, so always check the official portal before you apply. We recheck the rules for every Georgia trip we plan.
Do Indians need a visa for Georgia?
Yes, unless you qualify for the visa-free route below. There are two ways to enter Georgia as a tourist:
- Georgia e-visa: for most Indian travellers. You apply online on the official portal, pay the fee and receive the e-visa by email.
- Visa-free entry with another valid visa: if you hold a valid visa or residence permit of the US, UK, a Schengen/EU country or certain other countries, you can enter Georgia without a Georgian visa.
Georgia does not offer visa on arrival for Indian passport holders, so sort out your route before you fly.
Visa-free entry with a US, UK or Schengen visa
Indian citizens holding a valid visa or residence permit of any of these countries can enter Georgia visa-free and stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period:
- United States, United Kingdom
- Schengen and EU countries, Ireland
- Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Israel
- GCC countries (for example, UAE residence permits)
The key condition: the qualifying visa must still be valid on the day you enter Georgia. An expired visa does not count, even if it was a multiple-entry visa you used before. Carry the passport that holds the visa. The list of qualifying countries can change, so confirm yours before travel.
Georgia e-visa fee for Indians
The e-visa costs about USD 35.40 (roughly ₹3,000) per person, made up of:
- Consular fee: USD 20
- Service fee: 2% of the consular fee (USD 0.40)
- DuVerify identity verification: USD 15
Fees are non-refundable, even if the visa is refused. Payment is by Visa or Mastercard; your bank may add a small foreign transaction charge. Apply only on the official portal, evisa.gov.ge. Many look-alike websites charge much more for the same e-visa.
How to apply for the Georgia e-visa: step by step
1. Fill in the online form
Go to evisa.gov.ge, choose the tourist e-visa and enter your passport details, travel dates and address in Georgia.
2. Upload your documents
Scan everything clearly before you start (see the list below).
3. Pay the fee
Pay the consular and service fees by card.
4. Complete DuVerify within 24 hours
After paying, you must complete the DuVerify identity check and pay its USD 15 fee within 24 hours. If you miss this step, the application is rejected automatically and the fee is lost.
5. Receive the e-visa by email
Print it and also keep a copy on your phone for the airline check-in counter and immigration.
Documents for a Georgia tourist e-visa
- Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the e-visa validity, with at least 2 blank pages, issued within the last 10 years
- Photo: recent passport-size photo, 35 mm × 45 mm, white background
- Hotel bookings for your whole stay, or an invitation from your host
- Return or onward flight tickets
- Travel health insurance covering your entire stay (see below)
- Bank statements for about the last 3 months
- Day-wise itinerary
When you book a custom Georgia trip with us, we provide the hotel confirmations and day-wise itinerary in a format suitable for your application.
Processing time and validity
- Processing: at least 5 working days. In peak season (June to August) it often takes longer, so apply 2 to 3 weeks before you fly.
- Validity: 120 days from issue, with multiple entries allowed.
- Stay: up to 30 days per visit. The e-visa cannot be extended inside Georgia.
If your trip is longer than 30 days, or you plan to work or study, the tourist e-visa is not the right route.
New rule: mandatory travel insurance from 2026
Since 1 January 2026, every tourist entering Georgia must hold travel health and accident insurance:
- It must cover your entire stay, from arrival to departure.
- Minimum cover: 30,000 GEL (roughly ₹11 lakh at about ₹36.7 per lari).
- The policy can be from an Indian or Georgian insurer, printed or on your phone, in English or Georgian.
This applies to visa-free visitors too, not only e-visa holders. Most Indian overseas travel insurance policies meet the minimum easily; just check that the policy names Georgia (or worldwide cover) and covers all your travel dates.
Common reasons for delays and refusals
- Applying on an unofficial website, or missing the 24-hour DuVerify step
- Blurry passport scans or a photo with a coloured background
- Hotel bookings that do not cover every night
- Bank statements showing too little balance for the trip
- Applying too late in the June to August rush
Entry is always at the discretion of Georgian border officers, even with a valid e-visa. Carry printed copies of your hotel bookings, return ticket and insurance.
