Sentosa Island is Singapore's playground: a small island just off the south coast packed with theme parks, beaches, rides and shows. It is home to Universal Studios Singapore, but there is easily a second full day of fun beyond the theme park, from the cable car and the luge to the Wings of Time show by the sea.

This guide explains how to get there, the best things to do in Sentosa, current ticket prices and how to plan your day, with notes for families and couples.

Getting to Sentosa

  • Singapore Cable Car: the most scenic way, from Mount Faber or HarbourFront across the harbour to Sentosa. A Sky Pass covering both cable car lines costs about SGD 35 for adults and SGD 25 for children (2026), and runs from about 8:45 am to 10 pm.
  • Sentosa Express monorail: from VivoCity shopping mall (HarbourFront MRT) to the island's main stations.
  • Sentosa Boardwalk: a free, partly covered walkway from VivoCity, taking about 15 minutes.
  • Taxi, Grab or coach: straight to Resorts World or the beaches. On our packages, shared transfers take you to and from the island.

Top things to do in Sentosa

  1. Universal Studios Singapore: a full day on its own. See our Universal Studios guide.
  2. Skyline Luge: ride a gravity-powered cart down winding tracks through the forest, then take the Skyride chairlift back up. Children can ride with an adult. Combo tickets with the cable car are good value.
  3. SkyHelix Sentosa: an open-air platform that spins slowly up to 79 metres above sea level, for 360-degree views. About SGD 20 for adults.
  4. Wings of Time: an outdoor night show on the sea at Siloso Beach, with water jets, fire, lasers and music. Our packages include the 7:40 pm show.
  5. Singapore Oceanarium: opened in July 2025 in place of the S.E.A. Aquarium, with thousands of marine animals across ocean habitats. About SGD 50 for adults and SGD 39 for children on weekdays.
  6. Adventure Cove Waterpark: water slides, a lazy river and snorkelling with tropical fish at Rainbow Reef.
  7. Madame Tussauds Singapore: wax figures of Bollywood stars, world leaders and Marvel heroes, with a boat ride through Singapore's history.
  8. Beaches: Siloso for beach bars and activities, Palawan for families (with a suspension bridge to a small islet) and Tanjong for a quieter evening.
  9. Merlion Plaza and Sentosa Sensoryscape: landscaped walkways linking Resorts World with the beaches, beautifully lit at night.
  10. Fort Siloso: a free World War II coastal fort with tunnels and a treetop walk.

How to plan your Sentosa day

A classic Sentosa day, and the one in most of our packages, looks like this: a city tour in the morning, then the cable car across to Sentosa in the afternoon, three rides each on the luge and Skyride, time on the beach or at the Merlion Plaza, an early dinner, and the Wings of Time show at 7:40 pm before returning to your hotel.

Universal Studios needs its own day. If you also want Adventure Cove or the Oceanarium, plan a third Sentosa day or choose a package such as our Adventure Rush.

Sentosa for families

Families love the luge, the cable car, Palawan Beach, the Oceanarium and Wings of Time. Strollers are fine on the walkways and in most attractions. Bring swimwear for the beach and water play, and plenty of sunscreen; Sentosa is hot and bright in the afternoon. Our Sentosa & Universal Studios Getaway is a good short family trip built around the island.

Sentosa for couples

Couples can watch the sunset from a beach club, take the cable car at dusk, enjoy dinner at Resorts World and end with Wings of Time. A night or two at a Sentosa resort makes a lovely end to a honeymoon. Ask us about adding this to our Singapore honeymoon package.

A short history of Sentosa

Sentosa was once a British military base known as Pulau Blakang Mati. Renamed Sentosa, meaning peace and tranquillity in Malay, it was developed into a leisure island from the 1970s. Fort Siloso, on the island's western tip, preserves its wartime history with tunnels, gun emplacements and exhibitions, and is free to visit. Today the island is a mix of resorts, theme parks, beaches and nature trails.

Getting around the island

Sentosa is compact and easy to explore. The free Sentosa buses and the Beach Shuttle connect the main areas, the Sentosa Express monorail links Resorts World, Imbiah and the beaches, and many attractions are within walking distance of each other along shaded paths. The cable car's Sentosa Line also connects Imbiah and Siloso Point for those who want a ride above the island.

Staying on Sentosa

Staying on the island makes theme-park and beach days easier, especially with young children. Sentosa has family resorts at Resorts World, beach resorts near Siloso and Palawan, and luxury hotels with pools and spas. It is quieter at night than the city, and a short taxi ride from Orchard Road or Marina Bay. Many travellers split their stay between the city and Sentosa; we can arrange this on any package.

Tips for a great Sentosa day

  • Arrive by mid-afternoon for the cable car and luge, when the light is good and the heat is easing.
  • Book combo tickets for the cable car, luge and Wings of Time, which cost less than separate tickets.
  • Bring swimwear, a towel and sunscreen if you want to use the beach.
  • Arrive at Wings of Time 15 to 20 minutes early to find good seats.
  • Check the weather; outdoor rides and shows can pause in heavy rain or lightning.

Where to eat on Sentosa

Resorts World Sentosa has the widest choice, including a food court, Asian and international restaurants and Indian food. The beaches have casual cafés and beach bars. Prices are higher than in the city, so a hawker meal in town before or after is a good way to save.
