The short answer: Singapore is a year-round destination. It sits just north of the equator, so it is warm and humid every month, usually between 25°C and 32°C, with short, heavy showers rather than long rainy days. There is no cold season and no true off-season, and most attractions are indoors or shaded.
That said, some months are drier, some are wetter, and some are much busier and more expensive because of festivals and school holidays. Here is how to choose the best time to visit Singapore for your trip.
Singapore's seasons at a glance
- February to April: generally the driest, sunniest and most comfortable months. Chinese New Year falls in January or February.
- May to September: the southwest monsoon season, warm with occasional early-morning storms. June and July coincide with Indian school holidays, so it is busy.
- October and early November: the inter-monsoon period, with afternoon thunderstorms; Deepavali lights up Little India.
- November to January: the northeast monsoon, the wettest period, with heavier, longer showers in December. Christmas and New Year are festive but busy.
Month by month
January: wet early in the month, then improving; Chinese New Year decorations in Chinatown in some years. February: one of the driest months; Chinese New Year often falls now. March and April: warm and fairly dry, with good value outside Easter and Indian school holidays. May: hot, with Indian summer holidays starting, so prices rise.
June: busy with Indian families; occasional haze from regional fires in some years. July: similar to June, with the Singapore Food Festival in some years. August: National Day on 9 August brings parades and fireworks over Marina Bay. September: the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix (usually September or early October) pushes up hotel prices around Marina Bay.
October: afternoon storms; Deepavali in Little India in some years; school holidays and Diwali make Indian departures busy. November: the start of the wetter season, with good value before the Christmas peak. December: wettest month but very festive, with Christmas lights on Orchard Road and Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay; expect the highest prices from mid-December to New Year.
Singapore in December
December is one of the most popular months for Indian travellers because of school holidays and the festive atmosphere. Orchard Road is lit up, Gardens by the Bay hosts its Christmas Wonderland, and Marina Bay has a countdown with fireworks on New Year's Eve. It is also the wettest month, so plan indoor options for afternoons, book hotels and Universal Studios early, and expect higher prices. See all our Singapore tour packages for December dates.
Singapore in May and June
May and June are peak months for Indian families because of the summer vacation. The weather is hot and generally drier than the year-end, with occasional storms. Attractions such as Universal Studios and the Night Safari are busiest on weekends, so book early and consider weekday visits. Our Singapore family tour package is a favourite at this time of year.
Singapore in October and November
October and November bring afternoon thunderstorms, but mornings are often clear, and Deepavali makes Little India especially colourful. Outside the Diwali holidays, this can be a good-value time to travel. Plan outdoor sightseeing in the morning and indoor attractions in the afternoon.
Singapore in January
Early January is still part of the wet season and very busy until about the first week, when New Year holidays end. Prices drop after that, and the weather improves towards the end of the month. If Chinese New Year falls in late January, Chinatown is beautifully decorated, but some small shops close for a few days.
The cheapest time to visit Singapore
Prices depend more on demand than on weather. The best value is usually found in late January to March (outside Chinese New Year and Holi), and in November before the Christmas rush, especially on weekdays. The most expensive times are Indian school holidays in May and June, Diwali, the Formula 1 weekend, and mid-December to New Year. Read our Singapore trip cost guide for more ways to save.
Haze
In some years, smoke from forest fires in the region causes haze in Singapore, usually between June and October. It varies a lot from year to year; when it happens, outdoor activities may be less pleasant. Check the air quality forecast before travel if anyone in your group has breathing problems.
Best time to visit Singapore for families
For families, school holidays usually decide the dates. If you can, aim for the start or end of the holidays rather than the middle, and travel on weekdays. Late March and early April, outside Easter, are often pleasant and calmer. For Universal Studios, avoid Singapore's own school holidays (late May to June, and mid-November to December), when local families fill the parks too.
Best time for a honeymoon in Singapore
Many Indian weddings take place from November to February, which overlaps with Singapore's wetter months. That is still a good time for a honeymoon: showers are short, the city is festive, and indoor and evening experiences such as the river cruise and Gardens by the Bay are unaffected. For the most reliable weather, February to April is ideal. Our Singapore honeymoon package works in any month.
