Indian passport holders need a visa to visit Russia. For a holiday, the simplest option is Russia's unified e-visa, which you apply for online and usually receive within a few days. This guide explains the e-visa for Indians, the fees, the documents you need, and where things stand on visa-free travel.

Is Russia visa-free for Indians?

Not yet. India and Russia have discussed visa-free travel for tourist groups travelling with licensed tour operators, and talks were reported to be at an advanced stage in late 2025. At the time of writing (October 2026) it has not started, so every Indian traveller still needs a visa. We will update this page as soon as the rules change.

  • Travel medical insurance valid in Russia (recommended and often asked for at the border)
  • Your hotel details and travel dates, which we share with you after booking

How to apply, step by step

  1. Book your tour so your dates and hotels are confirmed.
  2. Apply on the official e-visa portal about 3–4 weeks before travel, and no later than a week before.
  3. Fill in your passport details, upload your photo and pay the fee online.
  4. Download the e-visa from your email and print a copy to carry with your passport.

Our team checks your form before you submit it, which avoids most rejections caused by typing mistakes.

Regular tourist visa

If you need a longer stay or multiple entries, you can apply for a regular tourist visa through the Russian visa centre in India. It needs an invitation (tourist voucher), takes longer and costs more than the e-visa, so most holidaymakers choose the e-visa.
