Evenings and nightlife
Moscow has rooftop bars, live music and late cafés, and the Bolshoi Theatre for ballet and opera. St Petersburg is known for classical ballet at the Mariinsky, evening canal cruises in summer and the raising of the Neva bridges during the White Nights. Families and senior travellers often prefer a folk show or the circus.

- Money: Indian-issued Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russia. Carry enough US dollars or euros to exchange for roubles, and use a guide for larger purchases.
- Is Russia safe for Indian tourists? Moscow and St Petersburg are busy, well-policed cities and our guests travel with private transfers and guides. Check the Government of India's travel advisory before you book and carry travel insurance.
- Language: English is spoken in hotels and at major sights, but signs are often in Russian only, so guided sightseeing makes the trip much easier.
- Food: both cities have Indian restaurants and vegetarian options; breakfast is included at the hotel.
- Clothing: light layers for summer; thermals, a down jacket, gloves and boots with grip for November to March.

Indian passport holders need a visa for Russia. Most travellers use the unified e-visa, applied for online at the official portal (evisa.kdmid.ru): it costs about USD 50, is usually issued within four working days and allows a single stay of up to 30 days. Visa-free travel for Indian tourist groups has been discussed by both governments but had not started at the time of writing. Our team helps you with the application.
Important notes
- Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed; our Murmansk tours include a guided hunt on the best night of the forecast.
- Peterhof's fountains run only from late April or May to early October; in winter you see the park under snow.
- Hotel rates can rise during major events in Moscow and St Petersburg, so book early for summer and New Year.
- GST and TCS apply as per Government of India rules.
