Where you stay: Kuta, Gili, Ubud & Seminyak

Kuta puts you close to the airport and in the middle of the action: a wide sunset beach, malls, markets, water parks and plenty of Indian restaurants, which makes it an easy first base after the flight from India. (3 nights)

The Gili Islands, reached by fast boat from Bali, are car-free coral islands where you get around by bicycle or cidomo, snorkel with sea turtles and watch the sunset over Mount Agung. (2 nights)

Ubud is where most visitors fall in love with Bali: emerald rice fields, craft villages, the Sacred Monkey Forest, Balinese dance in the evenings and peaceful hotels in the countryside. (2 nights)

Seminyak has a more polished feel than Kuta: designer boutiques, rooftop bars, beach clubs for sunset and some of the island's best restaurants, all within a short drive of the beach. (2 nights)
